Urinary Tract Infection

Urinary Tract Infection is a common disease, particularly among women. About one out of five women gets urinary tract infection during her life time. It is not to say that men don't have UTIs. However, they are not prone to infection as often as women do. When you feel a sharp pain or burning sensation in the urethra while passing urine, be alert. It can be UTI.
Symptoms of UTI are:
  • Increased frequency of urination.
  • Burning sensation while passing urine.
  • Fever along with shivering.
  • An aching pain in the loins and flanks.
  • Laboratory finding shows increased pus cells in the urine.
  • There could be blood in the urine.
  • A persistent desire to urinate even though the bladder is empty.




Urinary Tract Infection
Cranberry juice disallows bacteria to cling to the cell, which line the urinary tract. It is a great remedy to fight this infection. If you cannot have the cranberry juice directly you can mix it with apple juice to add some taste.

  • Drink at least eight glasses of water a day, preferably hot to dilute the urine and flush the bacteria out of the bladder.
  • Avoid alcohol, spices, coffee and tea.
  • Restrict the intake of beans, pulses, spinach, tomatoes and lady fingers.
  • Go to toilet as soon as you feel the urge.
  • Wear cotton under garments which help you keep cool and dry.
  • Don't wear tight jeans or pants.
Other Remedies

  • Take 25 ml of cucumber juice three times a day.
  • Taking 2 grams of cinnamon powder with a glass of water is very beneficial in UTI.
  • Soak 10 grams of coriander seeds in water overnight. In the morning, pound them and strain. Drink this infusion mixed with some misri (sugar candy).
  • A mixture of 1/2 tsp baking soda in eight ounce glass of water can be very helpful on the first signs of urinary tract infection. The presence of baking soda in your system raises the acid-base balance of the acidic urine.
