Overview
Common cold is an inflammation of the upper respiratory tract caused by the infection of virus. During the period of transition from one season to the other, a variety of factors conspire to weaken the immune system and make us vulnerable to colds and the flu. A person may suffer from common cold several times a year. A cold usually lasts for three to seven days.

Congestion of the nasal passage
Running nose

Take a cup of water and add garlic, ginger, black pepper and tulsi leaves in it.
Boil the water and keep simmering on flame till the quantity is reduced to one fourth of the original quantity.
Add 1 teaspoon honey to this reduced quantity.
Drink it every morning and at night to get relief from cold.

Basil (Tulsi) leaves 8-10 pcs.
Garlic-2 cloves
Pepper 4-5 pcs.
Ginger 50 gm
1 tspn Honey
Precautions
Common Cold
Only fruit and vegetable juices are suggested in acute stage of cold.
Take a diet that is rich in Vitamin C in order to shorten the duration of cold and relieve the symptoms.
Inhalation of steam of boiling water at night is also beneficial.
Avoid all solid foods during the acute stage (severe cold).
Avoid curd, buttermilk, banana and oily food.
Do not over-exert yourself.
Take special care during winters by protecting yourself from getting exposed to the chill outside. Always Keep yourself warm to avoid the cold affect you.
Other Remedies
Common Cold
In the case of acute cold, boil 1 tsp pepper powder in a cup of milk along with a pinch of turmeric (Haldi) and have it once a day for 3 days.
A tablespoon of carom seeds (Ajwain) crushed and tied up in a muslin cloth can be used for inhalation to relieve congestion/blocked nose.
Boil 2 tsp aniseed (Saunf) in 1 cup of water till it is reduced to half. Take 1 tsp twice a day.
