Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a disease in which bones become fragile and tend more likely to break. If not prevented or if left untreated, osteoporosis can progress painlessly until a bone breaks. These broken bones, also known as fractures, occur typically in the hips, spine, and wrist. As a woman ages, and begins edging towards menopause, she produces less estrogen, the hormone that helps control the rate at which calcium is reabsorbed into the bones. As estrogen levels fall, the bones may begin giving up more calcium than they take in. As a result, they get softer, weaker, and more prone to fractures.

Boron is a trace mineral that helps your body hold on to calcium -- the building block of bones. It even acts as a mild estrogen replacement, and losing estrogen is instrumental in speeding bone loss. Boron is found in apples and other fruits such as pears, grapes, dates, raisins, and peaches. It's also in nuts such as almonds, peanuts, and hazelnuts.

  • Adopt a vegetable or fruit juice diet for 5 days. Warm water enema should be administered during the period. Then, gradually embark upon a well-balanced diet. Emphasize on mineral rich foods.
  • Oats, rice, millet, barley, sour milk products and foods rich in lactic acid should be consumed in liberal quantities. Fruits like blueberries, raspberries, strawberries; sunflower seeds and sesame seeds; carrots, cabbage and green vegetables rich in calcium, magnesium, potassium and silicon are particularly beneficial.
  • Supplement the diet with mineral and take mineral and Betaine Hydrochloride tablets with each meal.
  • Avoid overeating and large meals. Chew food thoroughly.
  • Pineapple contains manganese that is beneficial in prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.
  • Regular physical exercise prevents osteoporosis.
  • Walking, jogging and cycling are especially beneficial.

  • Almond milk also contains a significant amount of calcium. Soak ten almonds overnight in water. In the morning, peel them and blend in the blender with a cup of warm milk. (You can use goat's milk or soy milk if you prefer them over cow's milk.) Pour into a cup or glass, and add a pinch each of ginger, cardamom, and saffron. Drink twice a day, before breakfast and before bedtime.
  • Daily chewing a handful of white sesame seeds in the morning provides at least 1,200 mg of natural calcium. These seeds won't create clogged arteries, as dependence upon calcium from dairy products may. This is an effective way to help prevent osteoporosis in menopausal women.
  • However, merely taking calcium may not be sufficient. Along with it, you need to bring some physical stress to the system through exercise.
