Overview
Influenza or more popularly known as the flu is a highly contagious disease. Flu was a major epidemic of 1918 and 1919. As a result, over 20 million people died. Influenza epidemics spread fast because it is a virus that is very contagious. Flu generally affects the nose, ear, eyes, throat, lungs and the bronchi. Chills, fever, headache and severe muscular pains are the starting symptoms of influenza. Some of the causes of influenza are viral infections, unhealthy lifestyle, tension and stress, excessive workload, lack of proper exercise, living in stuffy rooms and staying awake up till late hours.

Influenza Take one gram of cinnamon, ten grams of cloves and thirty grams of ginger. Boil this in one cup of water for fifteen minutes. Consume 50 ml of this decoction every three hours.

In the acute stage of influenza, the patient should abstain from all solid foods and only drink fruit and vegetable juices diluted with water on a 50:50 basis for the first three to five days, depending on the severity of the condition.
After the fever subsides, the patient may adopt an all-fruit diet for two or three days. This may be followed by a fruit and milk diet for the next two or three days.
One should avoid spices and condiments, alcohol, tobacco, strong tea and coffee, highly seasoned meats, over-boiled milk, pulses, potatoes, rice, cheese, and refilled, processed, stale, and tinned foods.

A simple way to get relieved from the flu would be to have a bath in a tub of lukewarm water.
Combine 1/2tsp of powdered long pepper, two teaspoons of honey and 1/2 tsp of ginger juice. Have this combination three times a day.
In a cup of warm milk, add a tsp of turmeric. Consume thrice a day.
Mix equal amounts of onion juice and honey. Consume 3 to 4 tsps of this mixture everyday.
Prepare a decoction by boiling one tablespoon of fenugreek seeds in 1/2 liter of water, till it is reduced to 1/3 rd of the amount. In a cup of this fenugreek decoction, add a tsp of fresh ginger juice and honey to flavor.
Eat a clove of raw garlic on an empty stomach in the morning.
