Sore Throat

Any infection or inflammation of throat will cause pain, which often causes difficulty in swallowing food or speaking. A sore throat is discomfort, pain, or scratchiness in the throat. A sore throat often makes it painful to swallow. Sore throat refers to the inflammation of pharynx, or back of the throat. It occurs frequently when a person has a cold or an attack of influenza.

Mango bark is effective in the treatment of a sore throat. Its fluid, which is extracted by grinding, can be applied nearby with beneficial results and can also be used as a throat gargle. This gargle is made by mixing 10 ml of the fluid extract with 125 ml of water.

  • Take a balanced diet including green leafy vegetables, fruits, whole grain wheat, cereals, etc.
  • Do not have a head bath during sore throat.
  • Do not expose yourself to cold water and cold climate for a few days.
  • Avoid oily and fried foods as they are extremely aggravating for this condition.
  • Do not eat cold or refrigerated food items when there is a throat infection. This will make the sore throat so severe that even swallowing food and breathing might become difficult.
  • Avoid foods with a cold propensity such as cucumbers, bananas, watermelons, papayas, etc.
  • Do not eat curds and other sour foods.

  • Add lemon juice and some honey to a glass of hot water. Drink this. It will give immediate relief from pain.
  • Cut a lemon into 2 pieces. Take one piece and put some salt and black pepper on it, press with a knife so that salt-pepper penetrates into the lime. Put the lemon on heat to make it warm. Slowly lick this lemon squeezing it until no juice remains. Do it 2-3 times a day.
  • Add 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper to 1 cup of boiling water; stir well and sip slowly. It is also good for sore throat cure.
  • Prepare a tea by adding 1 or 2 teaspoons of dried chamomile blossoms to a pint of boiling water; steep and drink a cup every few hours.
