Burns

A burn is a condition when the skin is damaged by heat or fire. Burns have different severities and are categorized as first, second and third degree burns. Each level depends on the severity of the skin damage. A first degree burn damages only the top layer of skin and heals itself in 1 to 2 days. It is red and painful and might also swell a little. A second degree burn is a thicker burn that includes blisters and is painful and swollen. This burn might heal by itself, yet needs special medical care. A third degree burn causes damage to all skin layers and does not heal by itself. The skin looks charred and destroyed. Since the burn damages the nerves, the sufferer might not feel any pain.

Burn
Yogurt acts efficiently in treating burns. Apply a generous amount of yogurt on the burn and keep it for about 15 minutes, before rinsing off. It would cool down the burnt area and provide relief.

  • Out of all areas in the home, the kitchen is number one for getting burns. The reasons are obvious, as are many of the precautions you can take to prevent an accident.
  • Do lower the temperature of your hot-water heater to below 120 degrees F. A second-degree burn can happen within seconds in water that's hotter than 120 degrees.
  • Do turn pot handles toward the back of the stove.
  • Do keep that steaming cup of java out of a child's reach, which means off the coffee table or other low-lying areas.
  • Do cover all electrical outlets with specially made caps, if children are present.
  • DON'T ever leave a child unattended in kitchen.
  • Do make the stove area off-limits to children.
Other Remedies
Burn
  • Garlic oil: Use this oil or garlic mashed well in one of the oils like olive oil, sunflower oil etc. to soothe and heal. This will completely remove burns.
  • Olive oil, sunflower oil, pumpkin seed oil or wheat germ oil: All of these will bring relief to a painful burn or scald and will improve the chances of healing without blisters or scars. This will help in curing burns.
  • Essential oil of lavender or peppermint: A few drops of either in a little vegetable oil will reduce the sting. This is beneficial for treatment of burns.
